[SOLVED] Bluetooth problems: Bastien's computer? Who the heck is Bastien?

Post by James_Smith » Sun Jan 08, 2017 10:59 pm

I had this problem before with LM18. I could not find a solution here or anywhere, so I just grinned, beared it, and waited for LM18.1. I installed 18.1 as soon as it came out, and everything was fine until today. Now my Bluetooth is doing the exact same thing it was with LM18. To wit, all of the sudden, my bluetooth mouse stopped working and when I opened up Bluetooth it says "Visible as Bastien's computer..."

Help?

Thanks

It's a bug. It's claimed to be fixed. Though I think it would be a rather simple thing to search the code for "Bastien's" and put something more descriptive, and certainly less cryptic, in its place.

I downloaded Blueman. Nothing worked. I gave up and got my old USB mouse. Shut my computer down to go home. Got home. Turned it on. Everything works.

Weird. It didn't work for love or money for the last 12-15 hours and suddenly it started up again. So... solved?

It was working not half an hour ago and had been working for the last 7 or 8 hours, so it's not like I've changed something.

This is what I'm looking at right now...

"Connection to BlueZ failed"

"Bluez daemon is not running, blueman-manager cannot continue.
"This probably means that there were no Bluetooth adapters detected or Bluetooth daemon was not started."
I typed this exact phrase, in quotes, into the google and it came up with several forum posts on various websites—a few of which said "SOLVED" in the subject line. Going there and following their advice left me no better off than I was before. The same problem persists.

I've have this problem too.

Bluetooth used to work, so a recent (maybe 1 or 2 months ago) update must have introduced this.

I have a Bluetooth USB dongle. The easiest solution is to just unplug it and plug it back in and Bluetooth works again until I turn off the PC.

I'm noticing a pattern: if I leave my computer for longer than about half an hour, I come back and it's Bastien's computer and the bluetooth devices won't work.

Restarting the computer (that is, pushing "restart") does not work: the computer comes on again like normal, but it's still Bastien's computer and the bluetooth devices still don't work. So far, completely shutting down and turning it back on again does work.

Hmm, mine seems to be the opposite.

I have the USB dongle on the front ports on my case. It should shine a blue light. But, ever since the issue started, when I start my PC it doesn't light up.

After I change USB ports, it will light up and I no longer have the Bastien's computer anymore, it shows up with my own name. Bluetooth works fine after that. So the blue light of the dongle does give me a visual clue of whether it is working or not.

I haven't tested thoroughly. But it does seem to be when I shut down entirely. I think it's okay if I restart. And I haven't noticed it mess up if I leave my computer on a long time.

Got it working. Summarised from another thread...

In a terminal

rfkill unblock all
bluetoothctl
power on
scan on

use ctrl-D to exit bluetoothctl

I also needed to remove device and reconnect mouse to get it to work but there must be a bug hiding in there somewhere.

I'm going to have to edit this because it's unsolved so far—unless I'm doing something wrong, which is a distinct possibility.

My mouse and bluetooth speaker stopped working just now. I looked and, sure enough, it gave me the Bastien's computer message. I tried your solution and it didn't work.

Here's what I did...

Code: Select all

mac@mac-Lenovo-Y50-70-Touch ~ $ rfkill unblock all
mac@mac-Lenovo-Y50-70-Touch ~ $ bluetoothctl
[NEW] Controller E8:2A:EA:57:8F:B8 mac-Lenovo-Y50-70-Touch [default]
[NEW] Device 00:11:67:00:04:DF Bluetooth Optical Mouse
[NEW] Device 88:C6:26:C2:89:A1 UE BOOM 2
[bluetooth]# power on
[bluetooth]# scan on
Failed to start discovery: org.bluez.Error.NotReady
Failed to set power on: org.bluez.Error.Failed
[bluetooth]# quit
[DEL] Controller E8:2A:EA:57:8F:B8 mac-Lenovo-Y50-70-Touch [default]
mac@mac-Lenovo-Y50-70-Touch ~ $
No change. The mouse and speaker still aren't working and it's still giving me the Bastien's computer message.

After a couple of weeks Bastien's computer reappeared.
Above fix did nothing.
After opening and closing thingson one attempt at opening bluetooth from "Settings" it changed from Bastien back to Barney.
The mouse seemed to think about working and got the following dialogue in the Terminal
graeme@Barney ~ $ rfkill unblock all
graeme@Barney ~ $ bluetoothctl

[bluetooth]# power on
