Help Epson XP-430

Post by oldcity13 » Sun Feb 12, 2017 12:36 pm

Using Linux Mint 18.1 updated.
Tring to install Epson XP-430 printer.
However they changed their repository server and it suggests adding an item to
sources.list.d. Upon editing sources.list.d it warns:

# Do not edit this file manually, use Software Sources instead.

I am not familiar enough to properly proceed, some guidance please.

Below is their item.

Changed the repository server for Automatic Printer Driver Download Service

FAQ ID : LI00027

We have changed the repository server for Automatic Printer Driver Download Service which downloads and installs the printer driver automatically by connecting the printer.

If you installed the printer driver with this service, you need to update the repository address as follows.

[Procedure]

Open the following file with text editor. (You need root privileges to update.)
    /etc/apt/sources.list.d/jockey.txt
Change the old address to new one.

    (Old) : deb http://linux.avasys.jp/drivers/lsb/epson-inkjet/stable/debian/ lsb3.2 main

    (New) : deb http://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/op/stable/debian/ lsb3.2 main
    Update the repository information.
    $ sudo apt-get update

[Distribution]

Ubuntu11.04 or later.

Don't bother. The website contains maybe 10% of all Epson printers and yours is not among them.
I used the gutenprint package which includes the so called ppd files, one for each printer. Use that to setup your printer so that it can do what it could do on Windows as well. With the native Linux ESC-PR driver this doesn't work and the result of your work looks like it comes from a 9-pin needle printer.

I also have 18.1 and I have an Epson XP-640. I was able to get it working using the XP-620 driver and as for the scanner part, I used this:

Where did you get that driver from? And, more importantly, does it give you all the printer can do? I have an XP-530 and with the gutenprint driver I can print up to 5760x1440 dpi, the maximum the printer can do.

I have Mint 17.3 and installed my Epson XP-430 printer / scanner with tutorial --

Both the printer and scanner work very well. My printer is on my local home network.

Luck,
