PL2303 not reconized

Help please. Have a XP compatible cable and I get can't configure port 05 error message. I'm running Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon Sarah.

Sorry but you're in the wrong place. This is the LMDE forum. Try the main Mint forum instead.

those Prolific Chips are tricky to get working,
& in my experience, they worked best on win-xp
but not so good on win-7
- yet another reason to keep an old win-xp box running

I forgot what PL2303 is and I didn't know that you were talking about a USB device until Pierre jogged my memory. Prolific works with some devices, and not with others. Buy one that's got the FTDI chip in it, and you'll be in business.
