[SOLVED] Suspend not working on Cinnamon

Post by asquartz »

Hello

I've been using Mate happily for a while and recently switched to Cinnamon desktop (same installation, nothing else changed). In cinnamon, the laptop does not Suspend when the lid is closed, whereas it did so in Mate.

I have checked the settings in Preferences/Power, this is set to "suspend" on lid closed. It's also set to Suspend on power button, but that does nothing. (button ignored). I note that if I type sudo pm-suspend, this works as expected (except on resume the desktop is not locked).

I've searched and found suggestions relating to nvidia drivers but not sure this can be the issue if Suspend is working on the same installation with the Mate desktop, just not cinnamon.

Any thoughts please? Many thanks.

Update, I did some digging and tried a few things
...none of these made any difference.

I solved the problem. In case anyone else is interested, it involved changing some parameters using the "gsettings" command, as detailed in this thread:
