UPDATE: Bluetooth adapter doesn't work anymore

Post by MrHam »

UPDATE 10.04.17:
My adapter stopped working again. The bluetooth-windows is again freezing and showing the "Bastien's computer"-stuff..
Bluetooth Manager also does not recognize my device, even though I had it working for a few days!
Afaik, I didn't change anything on the system, which really leaves me clueless.

I also did JeremyB's advice, but nothing changed.
If there's somebody out there who can help, I'd like to spend him or her a beer! ;)

Sincerely,

MrHam

Bluetooth adapter works but doesn't recognize devices

Hello dear Mint-fellows!
First of all, it's my first week into Linux, so please don't be too harsh! ;)
I changed from Win10, where Bluetooth worked fine.
Now I am using Mint 18.1 Serana, Cinnamon 3.2.7, 64-bit.

A "short" prologue:
At first my Bluetooth didn't work at all. Though it was shown in the panel and turned "On", I opened the GUI and I was "visible as 'Devan's Computer' [...]"
(forgot the exact name, because it's nobody I've ever heard of!), and the circle next to "Devices" didn't rotate, so I thought it was frozen.
(I hope you have a rough understanding of what I mean)
I also installed blueman, but it didn't show any bluetooth adapter.

After failed researching and a bit trial and error,
I managed Mint to recognize my adapter by removing most of the bluetooth-packages shown in the Synaptic Package Manager,
and installing the following:
- bluetooth via the Terminal
This (bluez, as far as I know) brought me back to the same GUI as before, but this time instead of Devian's, my device was shown and the circle rotated.. I was happy and a bit proud of myself, but it didn't show any devices (which were there - my Anker SoundCore bluetooth speaker and my Galaxy S5, ofc not paired)
- so I also re-installed blueman.

Searching for "bluetooth" in the Synaptic Package Manager shows these installed packages:
- blueberry, blueman, bluez, bluez-tools, gnome-bluetooth
- libbluetooth3, libbluetooth3-dbg, libgnome-bluetooth13

Now here's the problem I face right now:
The adapter is now recognized and I can search for devices both via bluez and blueman, but nothing is shown.
I searched for this problem as well, but didn't find any useful information.
Well, unfortunately I don't know what to add, but maybe you already have an idea.

I will post the 'lsusb' and 'inxi -Fxz' output, tell me if you need something else.

Thanks for your help!

I would try

Code: Select all

wget https://www.dropbox.com/s/r6q9zt59darq80n/BCM43142A0-0a5c-216c.hcd

Code: Select all

sudo cp BCM43142A0-0a5c-216c.hcd /lib/firmware/brcm

Code: Select all

sudo cp /lib/firmware/brcm/BCM43142A0-0a5c-216c.hcd /lib/firmware/brcm/BCM.hcd
Reboot

Sorry, wasn't able to check the forums during the weekend.

Thanks for your advice JeremyB, but unfortunately it didn't work.
Or maybe it would have, but my adapter isn't recognized anymore. See my edited post above.

Still, could you tell me what your input should have done?
I'm always eager to learn! ;)

Hi! Exactly the same problem here. Clean install of Mint MATE 18.1 from 2 days ago. Bluetooth worked OK at first. After that it failed to connect to my BT speaker with the "Bastien's computer" error. Now Bluetooth completely not operational (not even scanning for devices). Toggled Bluetooth both in software and with the HW switch, both to no avail.

I can't believe Mint still plagued by Bluetooth problems. I wiped my HD clean of my former Mint 14 install just to get rid of Bluetooth glitches and I end up worse than before!

Hardware is ThinkPad T410.
