When I unplug the monitor the laptop screen won't turn on

Post by 03927e9c » Mon Jul 31, 2017 1:39 pm

I have Linux Mint Sarah 18 (64bits). I've been using for more than a year and all of a sudden I have this problem.

I have a laptop that is connected to a monitor so I can use it as a desktop computer and everytime I wanted to use the laptop screen I just unplug the monitor and it worked perfectly. But now from one day to another this wont work anymore. I tried everything, drivers, configuration, upgrades, etc.

The laptop screen is working perfectly if I change the configuration just for that screen.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

You can use a workaround by using a xrandr command to turn on the laptop's display before unplugging the monitor. You will need to connect the monitor and then use this command in the Terminal and post the output: xrandr

The problem I have is that using a hidpi screen (xps 13) with a 1900 x 1200 monitor plugged in apart from the scaling issues, if I unplug the monitor the laptop screen seems to freeze (the cursor still moves but nothing can be selected).
