Linux Mint Not Mounting External drives

Post by Palladini921 » Sat Aug 05, 2017 4:06 pm

I have 2 External Hard Drives hooked to my computer. I have them hooked by USB through a powered USB hub, and it is hooked in a USB 3 in the back of my computer
https://youtu.be/5_1nw7qRGOo This is video of my screen, and how it acts when I click on the drive in question.

I am running Linux Mint 18.2 Sonya Cinnamon

I tried entering this into my terminal -sudo apt-get install ntfsprogs - and got the following -
sudo apt-get install ntfsprogs
[sudo] password for palladini:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package ntfsprogs is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

E: Package 'ntfsprogs' has no installation candidate

I got that command form this site _https://wmarkito.wordpress.com/2010/12/29/how-to-fix-mftmirr-does-not-match-mft-record-0/

Mint comes with ntfs-3g already installed, and will work with ntfs partitions just fine. There is nothing you need to install. In addition, it is highly recommended that you NOT follow advice from other websites, especially when they contain information that is 7 years old. You are just begging for trouble. The Mint forums is always the first place to look for answers.

jimallyn, that does not explain why it does not recognize my external Hard drives. I sot a New more steady video of my computer starting up and as I type this it is Uploading to Youtube. It is quite Obvious that Program you mention does not deal with external drives.

You need to be root to mount ntfs partitions.
Edit: though you can mount them @boot with a /etc/fstab entry.

It's a bug and in my experience it's not solved - except once, temporarily - by following the steps at:
http://tuxera.com/community/ntfs-3g-faq/#unprivileged
although you can give it a shot.
Please edit your original post title to include [SOLVED] if/when it is solved!
Your data and OS are backed up....right?
