NVIDIA Drivers GeforceGO 7300

Post by VORVALK » Sun Sep 03, 2017 2:19 pm

Greetings,

After a lot of research i can't see an answer for this. I have a laptop with GeForceGo 7300 and proprietary drivers work perfectly fine in Mint 18.2. Though I have dual boot and the exact same drivers in any flavor of 16.04 Ubuntu after install and reboot I only have available low resolutions. Have read about xorg.conf in Foruns but I cant fix or realize why the same kernel and the same driver version works on Mint but not Ubuntu (Ubuntu, Ubunto GNOME, UBUNTU MATE and Xubuntu tested). Any optimization Mint does during install for this card?

Thanks in advance

After some more tries I got to conclusion that is related to kernel version. This came as after update the kernel to last version the Cinnamon desktop crashed in a loop after a reboot. Though the proprietary drivers are still available at Additional Drivers, somehow they are not compatible with last kernel updates. The fact that they keep available at Drivers section means they can be patched for this situation?

Thank you

What driver are you having the problem with? Your card will only work correctly with the 340.xxx legacy driver.

It is indeed that driver that's in use. Though last kernel which was compatible was 4.4 series.

Any hint if it's possible to patch legacy NVIDIA drivers to newer kernels?

Ask the Nvidia devs. It's a closed and non-free driver....

But what's wrong with the 4.4 kernel series? :)
