Network printer connection problem on my desktop

Post by Ringel05 »

Searched and didn't see any thread addressing this problem and I've also done unsuccessful Google searches addressing my issue so;
I have an Epson XP446 printer (WiFi), running Mint 18.2 on my Dell Inspiron 17R and on my home built desktop. The laptop saw the printer right away with no issues (that I know of, haven't used it to print yet) but the desktop keeps trying to get me to log into my Windows workgroup (I have 3 other computers running Windows). I type in the password and it's not accepted. I had already disconnected the ethernet cable and plugged in a USB wifi dongle (made sure I had wifi connected) and it still won't see the printer and still wants me to login to the workgroup.
System:
CPU: Ryzen 5 2600
RAM: GSkill DDR4 8GB
GPU: GeForce GTX 770
Storage: NVMe 500GB

Just checked my laptop, while it sees the printer and has it installed (generic driver) it doesn't see the printer when I try to print. I also keep getting a Printer error (device name 'connecting to device').
Checked settings: 'Idle - Unable to locate printer.'

Doing a little more playing around in printer settings (on the desktop), saw where I needed to allow it to be seen and finally got it to see the printer but now I have 'transport endpoint not connected'. Everything I find on Google is old and doesn't appear to work for Sonya.
