Sorting sound hardware

Postby amla » Mon May 11, 2009 8:50 am

Hi,

I am an Elyssa KDE CE user and have the following problem:

I have a Hauppauge HVR-1100 TV card installed in one PCI slot inside my computer and an integrated sound chip in my Asus A8V-M SE motherboard. When I detach the TV card, KMix recognizes my sound chip as the master and all works relatively well. However, when both circuits are plugged, KMix only recognizes the HVR-1100 as the only sound card, though the motherboard sound chip still works. Under these conditions I cannot manipulate the volume control for my sound chip and the volume remains full up.

I suspect this is due to a wrong hardware sorting/priority process during system startup, so does anybody know how to change this behavior?

Thanks in advance,
Antonio

I managed to find a partial fix for this. Just adding:

options snd-via82xx index=0

at the end of /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base, and then adding (IMPORTANT):

blacklist cx88_alsa

at the end of /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.

Now KMix shows the proper mixer, but then two issues arise:

1) Volume can only be set between 90%-100% (I think this is an alsa bug for Elyssa but not sure).

2) TV card mixer does not appear in KMix (although TV sound can be heard).

More ideas?
