[SOLVED] Need MintBox 2 RAM upgrade Help ? Thanks !!!

Post by JoeBingo »

MintBox 2 arrived in the mail today.
It shipped with 4GB RAM (2GB x 2) and I'd like to upgrade to 16GB (8GB x 2) but not sure I will find and choose the correct RAM.
I looked on the Crucial memory site but Compulab /fit-PC isn't listed. I'm sure they have memory that would work ... just afraid I'd pick the wrong memory LOL.
Besides, there may be other/better choices maybe than Crucial?

Specs for MintBox 2:
Up to 16GB (2x 8GB) Non-ECC DDR3-1333/1600 ... http://www.fit-pc.com/web/products/mint ... fications/

Picture of one of the sticks installed in the MintBox 2 below. There are 2 slots, so I need 8GB x 2

If someone could definitely tell me the best option for upgrade I sure would greatly appreciate it !!! Thank you !!! :)

... in the meantime, I just sent an email to fit-PC technical support for assistance. Guess I'll find out how responsive they are.
Just thought for sure someone here has a MintBox 2 and upgraded the RAM and could chime in. Thanks !!!

it will generally depend on the Motherboard type,
but their web site does say "Up to 16GB (2x 8GB) Non-ECC DDR3-1333/1600"
and the picture of the current stick - is an JM1333KSU
& which suggests that it is a DDR-1333 - - so get a pair of those sticks, for the upgrade.
:)

the Crucial brand is A.ok:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Corsair-8GB-2X ... SwySlZ7pph
but Corsair are better.

Your link is a terrible suggestion and would never work.
Not only is the RAM not in the correct format ... I need SODIMM size ... it's also 1/2 the amount of RAM I'm looking for

Thanks for the links phd21 !!!
Was wondering if this might also work? Price seems pretty good ... https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-PC3-1280 ... 1SVKF&th=1
What has me wondering, is the clock speed 1600 vice 1333 (but MintBox specs says 1333/1600) and the voltage @ 1.35 ... Crucial's site for it ... http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/ct2kit102464bf160b

Hi "JoeBingo",

You are welcome...

You would have to ask MintBox2 and FitPC, or the seller of the memory, if the link you provided will also work. From what I have read and my own experience if you get system ram that has the same specifications that is slightly faster or slower, the newer computers can still use it and will adjust automatically; But I would verify that first. Amazon has a superb return policy, so you can try it.

Hope this helps ...

An "oh by the way": A few minutes ago when I purchased from Amazon, the selection showed only 1 left in stock @ $112.49 .... It had gone from 2 to 1 in stock in a matter of only a few minutes, so I pulled the trigger on the last one. Now, the link shows "In Stock" @ $145.39. Not sure what was going on with that. Kinda weird.

UPDATE:
Looks like I got lucky and ordered RAM that will work in the MintBox 2
I have not received the RAM yet, but have heard back from fit-PC technical support
Below is a link to fit-PC systems compatible RAM modules
The MintBox 2 isn't specifically listed on the spreadsheet but technical support advises ... "The MintBox 2 is based on intense PC"
RAM Compatibility link ... https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... =691373105
