Intel NUC7i3BNH Video Stuttering every 2-5 seconds while wireless is active

Great forum. I LOVE Linux Mint. I am using a NUC7i3 for a small quiet HTPC. I have everything how I want it but the video was stuttering for about 0.5 seconds every 2-5 seconds while on-board wireless adapter is active.

What I have done:
- Updated drivers using Intel Graphics Update Tool https://01.org/linuxgraphics/downloads/ ... -os-v2.0.2
- Tried all video types and media types (Youtube, misc streaming, using VLC player with local files)
- Problem does NOT happen if on-board wireless is disabled OR using wired ethernet.
- Update/upgrade through terminal

I've been scouring the internet for 3 nights when I came across this thread which helped me narrow it down to the wireless adapter:

...the wifi adapter is Intel® Wireless-AC 8265 + BT 4.2 and is fairly recent with Kernel support at 4.6+. New hardware integrated into Kernels + Firmware can have early bugs/problems.

From this thread at Intel, I'm thinking you might try testing the 4.13 Kernel (latest), as the discussion from last June suggests 4.11 and newer may have fixed problems. You're currently running 4.10 Kernel.

4.11 is available but not getting updates by Ubuntu. 4.13 is recent and is continuing to get updates (for now). The Kernels are available in Update Manager under "View".

Thanks for the info. i have it working well with just an ethernet line instead. Would you still recommend trying a newer kernel? Loving Mint so far.

If everything is working well and you're satisfied without the Wifi, stick with the 4.10 Kernel. It's continuing to get patches and fixes including Security for now. Many have reported testing and using 4.13, so I'm not at all trying to discourage you from trying that Kernel. It is also getting updates for now.

I believe the next Long-Term-Support (LTS) Kernel from Ubuntu for 16.04 is Kernel 4.14. That should be out by mid-February. Since 4.14 is also an LTS Kernel from kernel.org, that would be a better long term choice (IMO). Once it goes LTS at Ubuntu with 16.04.4 LTS release, it should appear in the list of Kernels for install in Update Manager.

Getting to a Kernel with stable support of your hardware and LTS for patches/fixes is the usual goal with Linux Distros. I've been following the development and release of 4.14 for the fix needed on my Ryzen processor, i.e. Turbo mode support. I'll install the mainline from Ubuntu early next month for testing after the patch/fix cycle slows.
