Suspend hangs when USB tuner is mounted

I’m running Linux Mint 18 Sarah on a Dell Inspiron N7010 laptop. (For the record, Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia won’t install on my hardware for reasons that I’m still trying to identify.) Under normal conditions, suspend works fine. But if/when a Haupauge USB TV tuner stick is plugged into a USB port, the system hangs when I request a Suspend. The tuner works fine while it is inserted. But the system hangs when Suspend is requested. The only recovery option is a power-off restart.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
