Hello,
I am considering an upgrade of my motherboard and CPU from an Intel to Ryzen. Will a full re-install of Mint 18.2 Sonya be required? Note that I have upgraded the kernel to 4.11.12-041112-generic as recommended in another thread on Ryzen based systems.
Thank you for your attention

Easiest way is to boot from iso and test with Intel and amd CPU.

Thanks Deep, but I'm not sure that would be of any help. What I am wondering is if the existing installation on an HD will work if I change the motherboard and CPU. It is a system upgrade.
Or is a full reinstallation required.

Re: Hardware upgrade from Intel to AMD Ryzen
I hot swap HDDs between machines frequently... without any intervention. The only glitch that occirs is when your current install (the one you're moving) has propreitary drivers configured. Even then, a few hacks solve the issue.
To be more safe, you can uninstall any propreitary drivers first and let the default kernel handle the hardware, e.g. reverting NVidia to Nouveau)
