Wacom CTE-440 Tablet in Mint

Post by darethehair »

Having Googled for a good while with no clear answers, it is time to ask here :)

I am running LMDE2 (not sure that it matters that this is the exact flavor of Linux Mint I am running, but whatever) and everything I can see on the command line seems to indicate that my Wacom CTE-440 tablet has been correctly recognized -- BUT only the 'mouse' buttons and scroll wheel seem to work -- NOT the pad itself, with either my finger or a tablet pen (that I purchased separately some time ago).

Here is what I think is relevant output showing that stuff is installed properly:

Code: Select all

+ xinput
⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2	[master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4	[slave pointer (2)]

Do I need to do something special to use my finger/pen to move/draw/erase with the cursor on the pad?

I also notice that the 'xinput' output doesn't show 'finger' -- does this mean that I cannot use my finger to draw with this tablet?

Should I be asking this in the LMDE subforum?

Thanks!

if you check through this guide https://medium.com/@ahris/setting-up-wa ... 277e4a595d ..... is it of help?

It recommends this wiki http://linuxwacom.sourceforge.net/wiki/ ... figuration ....... again if you let us know if it is helpful

Thanks pdc_2 for your links. These, and many others I have read, contain a lot of useful/detailed information. Unfortunately for me, many of them seem to be so old that I do not know if the suggestions/techniques they offer are still useful or relevant. I guess what I really need is for someone with a *recent* version of Linux Mint to plug in one of these Wacom tablets, and to report back what they had to do (or not) to get them working -- without any complex explanation of the underlying infrastructure (if not required for success). From my own work, it *seems* like I have everything in place for stuff to work, so I must either be missing something important -- or I am misunderstanding how to successfully use what I already have :)

thanks; does LMDE give you an icon to configure the Wacom? (I ask that because Cinnamon seems the only desktop of the standard Mint releases that does give that configuring icon);

you might try installing a virtual machine; and in that install an Ubuntu release: eg 17.10 the latest; and see if you can configure with that: the ubuntu releases seem to have the configuring icon

so we borrowed a CTH-680 and we run Mate; so no config;

but plugging it in I can draw immediately in Gimp; but I am an absolute beginner with these tablets;

our xinput is

Code: Select all

xinput
⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2	[master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4	[slave pointer (2)]
⎜   ↳ A4Tech USB Optical Mouse                	id=12	[slave  pointer  (2)]
⎜   ↳ Wacom Intuos PT M Pad pad               	id=14	[slave  pointer  (2)]
⎜   ↳ Wacom Intuos PT M Pen stylus            	id=15	[slave  pointer  (2)]
⎜   ↳ Wacom Intuos PT M Pen eraser            	id=16	[slave  pointer  (2)]
⎜   ↳ Wacom Intuos PT M Finger touch          	id=17	[slave  pointer  (2)]
⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3	[master keyboard (2)]
    ↳ Virtual core XTEST keyboard id=5	[slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Power Button                            	id=6	[slave  keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Video Bus                               	id=7	[slave  keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Power Button                            	id=8	[slave  keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Sleep Button                            	id=9	[slave  keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Yoyodyne Consulting UAC1 DAC            	id=10	[slave  keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Yealink usb-p1k                         	id=11	[slave  keyboard (3)]
    ↳ AT Translated Set 2 keyboard id=13	[slave keyboard (3)]
so I am not sure how to compare that to yours; as a very beginning soul using a tablet; it sort of works for me; not sure what flukes make it work for me

Thanks again pdc_2. I just tried it on another fresh install of Linux Mint 18.2 Mate, and same situation for me. I guess I need someone to test the CTE-440 model directly. Another possibility is that there is something wrong with my tablet (though the scroll wheel and mouse buttons work just fine). Hmmm...
