Kernel for AMD Ryzen 5 1600x

Post by Tidal_0x5D » Sat Feb 03, 2018 2:50 pm

Hello everyone,

I'm planning to change my CPU to Ryzen 5 1600x soon and I'm currently using Kernel v4.4.0-112.
As far as I know, v4.4.10 4.10 adds support for a proper multithreading. Should I switch to latest v4.4.10-42 v4.10.0-42 or there is another version you could recommend?
Also, are there any tips for performance improvement on Mint 18.3 x64?

Thanks in advance.

From the research I did last September, Ryzen MT Scheduler was added in Kernel 4.10 (not 4.4.10).

Turbo Mode support was recently added in Kernel 4.14 at release. See my sig.

You will need at least kernel 4.11. You're better off to use the update manager to view kernels and install the latest 4.13 from there.

Update manager > View > Linux kernels

Sorry, I made a mistake while writing. Of course I meant 4.10 not 4.4.10.

So looks like I have to install 4.13 for now and then update to 4.14 when it will be available on the list in Update Manager. Ok, got it.
Thank you guys. Much appreciated.

You're welcome.

FYI.....Kernel 4.14 has not been adopted by Ubuntu for any release, so won't be available through normal Update Manager Kernel install. I'm using the Ukuu utility to install the Mainline kernels for that reason. The next Kernel that Ubuntu will adopt is 4.15 in the coming release of Ubuntu 18.04.

Thanks again. I guess I will give it a try.
