This is a socket 1151 board, but has an issue:
Two sides around the socket have raised circuits too close to the CPU housing and stop an ordinary cooler from fitting. The old MB was an HP, so of course the proprietary sink/fan won't transfer. It is rectangular, and doesn't overhang the board. I haven't been able to find any thing that looks like it would work, and the Intel site is not being helpful.
Any suggestions of where to look?

I did not look for your specific model but they have over 100 variations on this page. Just keep searching until you find something (search query: heatsink/fan for Intel DQ77cp Motherboard )
Hope you find something... Good luck!
Re: heatsink/fan for Intel DQ77cp Motherboard
When I locate bundled systems with the board, I see the raised side-fan heatsink.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-DQ77CP-M ... B00HDB2QVK
I would look for LGA 1155 socket heatsinks of that type.

Re: heatsink/fan for Intel DQ77cp Motherboard
I would show you a photo of the chip enclosure however I don't know how to post images, and the instruction to use "rimg" is not helping me as I can't get it too work.
How do I do this? - I'm not following the info in some other posts here. "I'm so-o-o-o confused..."
The right and bottom sides have raised circuits and I need a heatsink/fan that will reach over them.
Not having any luck yet, because I can't tell from the vendor's pics if a heatsink is like that.
Appreciate if anybody else can tell, tho.

Re: heatsink/fan for Intel DQ77cp Motherboard
Thanks, ClixTrix, but no.
It does show that a standard heatsink is round; on this Intel board marked and sold as a Socket 1151, there are pieces of circuitry sticking up where the heatsink lays, so fail. It needs a rectangular and raised shape.
And because it's discontinued, Intel doesn't make the support easy to find.

Re: heatsink/fan for Intel DQ77cp Motherboard
From your prior post, thought you might be having problems with the clip too.
For LGA 1155 socket on the DQ77CP motherboard, here's the official one from the compatibility list at Intel.

So, where did I get the tested compatibility list for the DQ77CP.........here. It's down the page under Fans.

Re: heatsink/fan for Intel DQ77cp Motherboard
Weirdness. Evil digital spirits.
I've been typing "DQ77CP" and various queries into the Intel Search box, and I've been getting told simply that it's not supported any longer. Now I went in through the link you posted and did it again, and found the info right away.
I have not been able to find this page before now:
https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en ... %2FSupport
Maybe now I'll get somewhere...Thanks loads!

Re: heatsink/fan for Intel DQ77cp Motherboard
Goes under the heading of....ask an old integrator where to find stuff.
Intel wants to sell stuff that they make, so they give you a list of their stuff.

Re: heatsink/fan for Intel DQ77cp Motherboard
After going online at the "Intel Communities" forum, it seems a good chance the board is 1 of 2 things:
a knock-off, or
a "proprietary" board that was dumped on the market by somebody
so it's doing the "Amazon Rebound" and my refund is on the way.
I've bought 3 boards in the last year, and 2 of them had to go back. Sounds about average for me.
