Nvidia Prime works, but not GPU fan

Post by Gavaudan » Thu Mar 08, 2018 2:17 am

I have an Acer Swift 3 SF314-52G-55WQ with a discrete GeForce MX150 graphics card. It also has the Intel integrated graphics. The problem isn't switching between the two, the Prime applet works good for that (it won't obey my demands that it switch its profile with the discrete card, but that isn't what this post is about).

My issue is that I don't think the GPU fan is working properly, if at all. There is a constant fan noise, but it never changes when the GPU is under load during a game or something, and it gets very very hot, as in feeling heat a couple inches above the keyboard hot. I can't tell if it's the CPU fan or not that I'm hearing, but I have my doubts. I think there's a way to manually set the GPU fan speed, but I'd much prefer some sort of automatic adaptive solution. Any ideas?

Edited to add output from inxi -Fxz, in case it helps.
