[SOLVED] No sound over HDMI, but Pavucontrol works(?)

Post by Zakalwe » Sun Mar 11, 2018 7:43 am

Hello!

I am using Mint 18.3 64bit Cinnamon (on a Mintbox 2), and I cannot hear any audio over HDMI (computer to TV). However, unlike the typical Ubuntu&HDMI-audio-problems, I do have the HDMI-option in Pavucontrol, and I can see the green volume bar in the Pavucontrol "Playback" tab moving around when playing some audio - it just does not get to the TV.

The hardware is fine: I ran a Lubuntu live CD on the same computer and HDMI-audio worked, so it seems to be purely a configuration problem. In the worst case I just reinstall a fresh OS, but I would like to avoid that if there is some simple fix.

Does anyone know if there is such a thing? :)

...and found the solution: In /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf I replaced

options snd-hda-intel model=generic

with

options snd-hda-intel id=PCH index=0
options snd-hda-intel id=HDMI index=1

Typical, I had tried to fix this a few times over the past year, and the day I post a forum help request I finally find the solution myself. :D
