SSD overheating

I've recently installed Linux Mint 18
hddtemp and sensors say temperature is around 35-48 usually, but disks application tells me 94. I wouldn't worry about it, but I booted back into windows and it seems to be way cooler, ssd-z shows temperature of 44 degrees (everything in Celsius).
It's a dual boot setup, grub is installed on the ssd, linux itself is on hdd (temperature is around 38).
Any ideas what could cause the overheat and why the readings are so different?

I know it's not reaching 94 degrees like disks app says, but it's also hotter than on windows, so it can't be just what either hddtemp says

slowly gets higher, 49. i guess it shows it correctly and that's why I can feel the difference between windows and linux, but why is it like 6 degrees higher? cpu is at around 49 atm. (not using my gpu)

there's a chance that gui is wrong in the sense that it shows temp in F, but says it's C, and then because if that, calculates F based on the "value in C". It might be higher by like 4 degrees or so, and since I don't have a thermometer, I can't check it. I might be overreacting because SSD hitting 90C is like going to ruin it in a really quick time. I run psensor and it also shows me 94C
94F is 34C, which would be too low, it doesn't make sense

Why did you put only Grub on the SSD? It doesn't seem logical....

I had unpartitioned space on HDD, i'm used to being asked where i want to put linux without having to go into advanced options. So i thought it'll be after the question whether or not i want to have dualboot. It wasn't, so it just chose the unpartitioned space. Also i think that's the better outcome since i don't have a lot of space on SSD anyway

Just to say that in general i find my machines run hotter under Linux Mint than they do under windows. It seems to vary as to why and when, but overall yes Linux Mint runs a bit hotter (sometimes quite a bit). I use extra external fans to increase the airflow to help keep temps ok.

any ideas why both psensor and disks app built in mint are not working properly? just curious at this point

Not had an issue with Psensor (the graphical GUI tool) myself, as that just displays temps (rather than controls fans).

I run Mint on two laptops and both would get too hot vs them running under a Windows environment.

One (this one i use for internet) has just an on-board graphics solution (An Acer Travelmate 5730 with intel centrino and GM45 on-board graphics) and 80% of the time runs in the Cinnamon desktop just fine, with temps in the 40-60 degrees C range. The other 20% of the time (typically when watching youtube videos etc) it can hit temps of upto 87 degrees C, and i have to stop what i'm doing and give it time to cool down, even with an external fan blowing air into the case.

The other was a HP with a discreet gpu (a mobile 8800) and that eventually cooked itself to death (as in it now won't boot). This is the thread i made for that issue:

That contains some handy info (from the 7th post down) for people having overheating issues. For myself i have not found a total solution, but using external fans does seem to help, and anyway to better increase airflow in your PC if overheating under Mint is a good idea to look into.

I just read your post and the good replies to it. Here are my thoughts on this as well.

I just installed an SSDrive recently and it is my only drive, so it is called "/dev/sda". I also have various drive sensors installed including Psensor's newest version, and there seems to be a conflict or error (bug) with the GUI desktop drive temperature display with certain SSDrives. I got really worried when I added the new SSDrive to Psensor and my other temperature (widgets, applets, desklets) because they all showed 211-212F (100C) so I thought the drive was bad and running super hot, about to melt.

Yet, when I run the console command below I get reasonable and cool running temperature of 86F/30C.

FYI: My previous mechanical platter hard drive usually ran a temperature between 105F -120F.

I am not sure what is going on with the desktop displays of SSD temps, but I too would like to find out...
