I am using Mint 17.3 Cinnamon 64 bit. I am running an virtual machine (VM) with Windows 7 as guest inthis Linux Mint host. For that purpose I am using KVM QEMU to run the VM. If I want to use a smart card reader (connected with USB) in the Win 7 VM. But I can not redirect the USB device in the VM because Mint is using it. Error message is given: Could not redirect .... because it is in use by another application. This message appears also when using for example a digicam. But unmounting the digicam (in nemo) solves the problem. How can I make the Mint machine to stop using the USB device in case of this smart card reader in order to use this device in the Win 7 VM?
Any help appreciated!

I succeeded to solve the problem by myself. I had to add the usb device as a new device in the settings of the VM.
