I just went through this with a new Asus motherboard. I'm not sure if this the same card?

https://askubuntu.com/questions/926364/ ... -on-ubuntu
. . . Install the latest 4.14 kernel with the driver code . . .

Join the ASUS club.

My TP500L laptop WiFi card is not recognized in ANY version of Linux Mint.

I have had to find a Linux conversion for the Windows adapter.

Our adapters aren't even close, so not sure if my info would help you.

Card-2: MEDIATEK MT7630e 802.11bgn Wireless Network Adapter
driver: mt7630e

you are welcome to my install files if you wish.

Re: Wifi Unavailable in ASUS laptop

Hello guys,

Did any of that work? Same laptop - Asus vivobook S14, which came with Endless OS. I haven't installed mint yet, but booting from usb I tried ubuntu 18.5, mint 18.3 cinnamon and kde, debian 9.4.0, and Kubuntu 18.04. They cannot see the available networks.
This laptop has no ethernet port.

Code: Select all

lspci -knn | grep Net -A3; rfkill list
gives

Code: Select all

02:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. Device [10ec:b822] (rev ff)

Any help would be much appreciated! :)

Re: Wifi Unavailable in ASUS laptop

Post by JeremyB »

Try

Code: Select all

sudo apt remove bcmwl-kernel-source
sudo apt install git build-essential dkms
git clone https://github.com/jeremyb31/mt7630e_test.git
sudo dkms add mt7630e_test
sudo dkms install mt7630e/2.2.1
Reboot, go into BIOS/UEFI settings and disable Secure Boot and see if it works

Re: Wifi Unavailable in ASUS laptop

Post by ofekih »

Hey, I'm having the same problem with my lenovo laptop. I've tried many different suggestions, including all the ones in this thread, and it's still not working. When I switch the wifi on, it still says unavailable.

I'm currently in the 5.0.6 kernel, but I also tried various other kernels (4.15, 4.13, 4.8).

I've spent many hours on this, any help would mean a lot! (Also the realtek 8822be driver)
