wifi works, but doesn't respond to ping

Post by Quirken »

I have a TP-Link TL-WN722N USB wifi adapter (Atheros AR9271 chipset, using the ath9k_htc driver). I'm connected to the internet and can ping other machines on the network, but this machine won't respond to incoming connections (ping says unreachable, can't connect Synergy, etc)

It's basically acting like it's behind a NAT, but it's on the right subnet.

I previously was using the internal PCI card (BCM4360), and had zero issues then. (I am now passing this through to a VM, so it's no longer available.)

Any idea why my computer seems to be isolating itself on the network?

You can tell a Windows firewall not to respond to a ping. That's probably a feature of other firewalls as well.

Just a thought.

it's not just ping though. the linux mint machine won't respond to anything I've tried.

additionally, the firewall is off and i've tried

Code: Select all

echo "0" > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/icmp_echo_ignore_broadcasts
although in the grand scheme of things, I don't really care about ping. I just need it reachable, ping or not.
