Thumb Drive Problem
Can not access thumb drive in Linux mint, does not show up any place I can find, started about 2 weeks ago, get sound notification when plugged in and removed but that is all. Works ok in virtual machine of Win XP. I am lost. Os is Linux Mint 17.3 cinnamon desktop.

Re: Thumb Drive Problem
Hmmm, I am also using 17.3 Cinnamon. When I plug in a thumb drive, it opens in file manager. The only thing that I can think of to try is Menu, Preferences, Preferred Applications, Removable Media, and make sure the "Prompt or start programs on media insertion" switch is on.

Re: Thumb Drive Problem
It is on, did not need to change it. When I insert a CD I get a prompt for what to do with it.

Can you post the results of inxi -Fxz which will give us a better idea how your system is set up
i.e. open a terminal
enter "inxi -Fxz" and copy the results
paste the results here using the code tags the button at the top of the reply that looks like </>.

Re: Thumb Drive Problem
Code: Select all
ID-2: USB /dev/sdb model: USB_Flash_Drive size: 32.0GB
Click on <Menu><Accessories><Disks> and see if it shows up there. Highlight the USB device if it shows and see if it is mounted or not. If the icon in the bottom corner of the image looks like a PLAY button, click on it and then see if you can find it in nemo. If that works, it, at least shows that the device was not mounted.

Re: Thumb Drive Problem
That has saved me in GNU/Linux many times ( and not only with Mint ) , and with various different system settings .
I have no idea why toggling back-and-forth should work , but it sometimes does !
At a guess I would say that what is being displayed in system settings , is not the option that the OS is currently using .
Maybe someone can shed some light on this ?
