solved all my hp printer problems

Go to hp and follow instructions to download 3.18.3
after installation through the command line (terminal)
install hp-plugin through the terminal by typing "hp-plugin" no quotes

hope this helps all mint 18.3 users using hp printers.

personal opinion- support hp printers since they do keep up to date with their drivers. Easy to install and they work.

I also like to install hplip-gui which is a nice hp fronted for cups and allows things like ink level and test pages, etc.

Thank you for this. It was a timely solution to a problem I just found out that I had. I needed to scan some docs rather urgently only to find the generic scanner software would not work over my network. All now works well.

As an aside. Whilst installing said software, I maximised terminal to watch progress only to discover that the terminal screen is slightly transparent so I could see the underlying windows. I found it as a pleasant surprise. No biggie, just an observation.

That's one of the first things I fix after doing a new install. Different strokes for different folks.
