Disabling mouse tilt buttons

Post by hb1547 » Tue Apr 24, 2018 1:27 pm

I'd like to disable two buttons on my mouse: specifically, the mouse wheel tilt right/left buttons. I usually accidentally click the tilt button whenever I close a tab with middle click in Chrome, which changes my active tab.

Here are the steps I took:

First, I used `xev` to find that the mouse button numbers for the tilt are 6 and 7.

Then, I modified `~/.Xmodmap`:

Code: Select all

pointer = 1 2 3 4 5 0 0 8 9 10 11 12
Finally, I ran `xmodmap ~/.Xmodmap`

Unfortunately, this doesn't work: the tilt buttons are still enabled in Chrome. But I must be getting close. When I run `xev`, the tilt buttons no longer register events there. I tried restarting Chrome, and I tried rebooting and re-running the command above before starting Chrome.

Is this a Chrome issue? Is Chrome ignoring the Xmodmap file? Or is there another step I can take?
