Hi Europa,

According to your BIOS date, your Vaio is about 8 years old. Have you ever had it cleaned? Noticing your CPU/GPU temps are in the 70C's. (its getting hot) Was that at idle, or did you have something running? If you've never had it apart, and it's within your comfort level, you make want to remove bottom covers to get clear access to the fan for shooting some canned air through it to clean it out. You'd be surprised how much dust/fuzz/lint can build up in those.

According to this website, http://vaio-utils.org/fan/, your laptop model (VPCEA) is listed as known not to work with the vaiofand control. The unbuntu archive PPA for it was updated 10 days ago. If you don't see this file /sys/devices/platform/sony-laptop/fanspeed on your system, its seems that it is improbable that it will work.

Your BIOS settings may or may not have a setting for this--not exactly sure how it would be listed there, something similar to setting it for power-saving (fan would run slower, ramp-up later at expense of CPU temp), or performance (fan speed will ramp up sooner--CPU will run a little cooler.)

Have you had this laptop for a long time, or recently acquired it? Give the cleaning a try and see how it goes.
