The battery on my Acer Switch 12 2-in-1 won't charge when LM is running. It's just come back from the repairers who put in a brand new battery under warranty and it works fine under Windows. But in LM the charge level stays static when I'm using the machine with the charger plugged in. I think it also drains when the machine goes into standby while on mains power.
Any suggestions for troubleshooting?

Re: Acer battery won't charge
Not sure what details would be relevant. That's why the question about how to troubleshoot ie where to start?
The machine is called Aspire SW5-271-69LN which has a battery called LGC AC14C81. I am running LM18.3 with kernel 4.13.0-39-generic #44~16.04.1-Ubuntu. Cinnamon. 64-bit.
Of course, now I've posted here it's behaving itself a bit more. Plugged the PS in, clicking the battery icon still gives 'Using battery power'. After a while (couple of minutes?) it has changed to 'Charging' and it's gone from 83% to 87% as I'm typing this. Meanwhile the estimate of time until fully charged has gone up from 23 to 25 minutes. This is probably all as expected.
The real problem I have though is if I leave it unattended so it goes to sleep, I can come back later to find the battery fully dead, even though it's plugged in.
The other odd thing I have noticed is that the setting 'When the battery is critically low' has only one option: Do nothing.
Seems to suggest an issue with the battery driver but I don't know where to look next.
Thanks for the reply.
Edit: Now fully charged. I'll come back when/if I've got something more reproducible.

Re: Acer battery won't charge
I personally don't pay much attention to the message "using battery power".
All I look at is the status of the battery charge, and for my laptop, it is normally 98%
as long as the cord is plugged in, my battery hovers in the 95-98 percent range.
as you can see here, that is exactly what my "Battery Message" shows....
IMO, that is totally irrelevant to the battery's charge.... been that way for 2 years now.

Re: Acer battery won't charge
For others finding this thread, that turned out to be the key. The battery was just being allowed to go to zero with no suspend or hibernation. From there, it would not charge under LM, only under Windows. The other odd thing I have noticed is that the setting 'When the battery is critically low' has only one option: Do nothing.
To get sensible behaviour, you have to install something called dconf-editor then set up the power options under org->cinnamon->settings-daemon->plugins->power.
