Any problems with ThinkPads and Linux Mint?

Post by logithack » Tue May 01, 2018 6:24 am

Hey everyone,

following RobertService's recommendation in my last thread, I'm opening this thread to ask you whether any of you can report on problems regarding the use of Linux Mint on ThinkPads. I'm particularly considering getting a T440s or a T430, so these models are the ones to focus on.

I'd greatly appreciate if you could share your experiences on this topic so I and other future visitors can make sure they opt for the right system when intending to use Linux Mint on it.

Thanks guys!

T430 worked out of the box with no problems. Never tried the T440 so can't speak to that. Here are the test results done by Ubuntu for their certification on the T440.

there shouldn't be - - all of my Laptops are all Lenovo Thinkpads,
& work just fine with the LinuxMint systems that get installed onto them.

Are the T530's as good as the T430's? Other than screen size, do they have any major differences?
LM 18.3 xfce / lenovo T520 / 8gb ram / 240gb ssd
LM 18.3 xfce / biostar a870u3 / amd athlon II x2 250 / 8gb ram / nvidia gt218 geforce 210 /

From a quick look at specs other than screen size (but not resolution) they look the same.

Another great option is the Lenovo x250.
I have been running 18.x xfce for some time, and everything is working flawlessly.

X230 Cinnamon 19.1 here. Works great right out of the box.
