CPU fan not working [solved]

Post by l Jay NL l »

hello, ive got an acer aspire 7720Z notebook wich is about 10 years old and came with windows. when i lately installed linux mint 18.3 cinnamon next to windows, it started overheating. i found out it was my CPU fan not rotating at all just at startup bios, after starting linux mint the CPU fan stopped. what i did is updating the CPU driver tru driver management, called microcodes. this was not helping, then ive found a tip on internet that in the bios you could try turning off your SATA controller AHCI. also failed. on the support site from acer they only support windows based drivers and updates. what i did is download the BIOS update extract and run it on windows flashed the BIOS and the CPU fan is still running.
