[SOLVED] Android phone doesnt work on Mint 18.3

Post by deepakdeshp »

Hello,
I tried to copy some files from Android Galaxy grand 2 Samsung make to my Mint 18.3 Cinnamon system. After struggling for half a day I wasnt successful. Finally I booted into the dual boot Windows 10 (Booted after 1 month ) and the copying was smooth.
Is there anything I need to do to get the copying working?
Thanks all in anticipation.

Can you expound on what happened? Did Mint recognize that the Galaxy was plugged in?

I had similar challenges, had something to do with MTP or something, which I didn't pursue as I found this WiFi File Transfer app that basically sets up a temporary FTP server on your phone, all via my wifi network.

I quickly realized that I preferred this method because I could then use an FTP client (e.g., FileZilla) to transfer files, which I find far more reliable than a file manager.

Hi deepakdeshp,

I just read your post and the good replies to it. Here are my thoughts on this as well.

There are many posts on this topic already in this forum.

Have you installed the MTP packages from the "Synaptic Package Manager (SPM)"?

Hello phd21 , thank you for your detailed reply.
I am not able to run the kde application. I ran kde ap on the laptop and phone. On phone it didnt find any device to pair. Both are connected to the same w-fi network.
Message from laptop:-

Code: Select all

sudo indicator-kdeconnect
** Message: KDEConnectManager.vala:33: KDE Connect daemon found
** Message: KDEConnectManager.vala:42: Devices file not creates
** Message: KDEConnectManager.vala:214: no trusted device found, open KDE Connect in your phone to start pairing
I will try the other solutions you suggested.

Hi deepakdeshp,

You are welcome...

You might need to install "kde-runtime" and reboot (restart) your computer before "kde connect" will work.

Thank you all , and especially phd21 who suggested various solutions.
Finally the solution proved to be simple. I upgraded the computer kernel to 4.17.1 which is released recently, and copying files from the phone to computer is a breeze now.
