the HDD descriptor states 2048 bytes,

but Linux is claiming 512 bytes.

which is right, and does it make a difference to Gparted?

I want to resize the HDD to give a 2nd partition to dedicate to Timeshift and luckybackup on my spare laptop.

Can't use the USB drives because Timeshift does not differentiate between the laptops... ran into that already.
I have to dedicate a USB HDD to a specific Linux PC for backups.

It's your Live Session drive that is triggering the warning. It's an ISO9660 file-system (2048-byte logical sectors) on hardware that uses 512-byte physical sectors. Just ignore the warning... you can't modify the Live Session Drive in gparted anyway.

thank you, problem solved.

FWIW, I had to ignore it, nothing that I found to do about it.

Gparted very faithfully divided the HDD into 2 separate partitions, and Timeshift thanked me for that.
