What is my real CPU speed? (SOLVED)

Post by LLS » Thu May 31, 2018 9:28 am

This question pertains to my HP laptop
https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp ... /c05373648.
Mint 18.1 Xfce

The processor speed as listed on box and in the product specs is supposed to be 1.8Ghz

I've ran

Code: Select all

cat /proc/cpuinfo
and it list the CPU speed as exactly 1000 Mhz (1Ghz)

Surely this cant be right?

What does this terminal command give you as output ?

inxi -Cx

My guess? Power Saving feature drops your cpu power when it is not required.

This output shows the speed each core is running at that moment. Most CPUs run at variable speeds for saving energy and to keep itself cooler.

My CPU is rated 2.5 GHz, but that is it's maximum rate. If all cores ran at max all the time, my CPU would have burned out long ago.
