Epson USB scanner won't install in Mint 18.3 or 19(beta)--->

Post by martin777 » Sun Jun 10, 2018 10:21 am

My Epson Perfection V300 Photo scanner works great on Mint 17.2.
Will not install in Mint 18.3 or Mint 19 LIVE USB(beta).
Here are some screen shots that might help---
Mint 17.2

Mint 18.3

Mint 19 USB LIVE (beta)

Not really a show stopper for me since I can boot to
Win7,17.2 or 18.3.

Thank you

so inside the bug report that Rob posted; was a solution that worked for some

https://askubuntu.com/questions/1034528 ... 22_1034528

1) they recommended symbolic links

Code: Select all

sudo ln -sfr /usr/lib/sane/libsane-epkowa* /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sane
2) Add a 55-epson-libsane.rules file to /etc/udev/rules.d/ ..... do it by using the text editor called gedit; (if you don't have it, install with

Code: Select all

sudo apt install gedit
then move on to the next line below

....... create the file with

Code: Select all

gedit admin:////etc/udev/rules.d/55-epson-libsane.rules
so that should open a blank file; and into it please paste:

Code: Select all

SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ENV{DEVTYPE}=="usb_device", MODE=="0666" SUBSYSTEM=="usb_device", MODE=="0666"

ATTRS{manufacturer}=="EPSON", DRIVERS=="usb", SUBSYSTEMS=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="04b8", ATTRS{idProduct}=="*", MODE="0666"

ATTRS{idVendor}=="04b8", ATTRS{idProduct}=="0137", MODE="0666", GROUP="scanner", ENV{libsane_matched}="yes"
SAVE ......... CLOSE .........
______________

then unplug scanner, plug it in again and try

Code: Select all

scanimage -L
....... does it show up, as in the thread above?
