Caution - Reallocated Sectors Count

Post by minty_22 » Mon Jun 11, 2018 4:42 pm

I have about 6 spare hard drives, and i needed one today for backups, so i took one of them and tested it on r-linux

2 of them shows all "green" the rest showed "caution" 05 Reallocated Sectors Count"

what exactly does this mean? are my 2 hard drives going bad? should i not use them as backup?

one of them says 03, the other 0B

r-linux
These are Linux Mint forums, not R-Linux forums, irrespective of the problem.

The firmware of the hard disk reallocates bad sectors to a spare area, that's a normal behaviour. Regularly check the amount of sectors reallocated, a dramatic increase of bad sectors would indicate a weak magnetic disk surface needing an hard disk replacement as soon as possible.
