[Solved] SIS Chipset 640 x 480 resolution / Mint 19

Fujitsu Siemens Esprimo v5535 laptop.

When I ran Mint 17 on this laptop I used an Xorg.conf file in /etc/X11 to obtain better screen resolution.

Mint 18 dropped Xorg so I migrated to LMDE2 which gives acceptable screen resolution and which I'm still using now.

I noted that Mint 19 had returned to Xorg so thought that the Xorg.conf file in /etc/X11 would work again to give a good screen resolution.

But it seems that I thought wrong as even with the Xorg.conf file I can only obtain 640 x 480 using Mint 19.

Any ideas other than to wait for LMDE3 ?

The "horrible SiS"....

Forget 19. In 18.1 this should work:

Many thanks for that...

I agree the SIS is an abomination that has always been trouble.

Does this mean there can't be a solution for 19? I don't mind waiting if it saves me the trouble of re-installing 18.1. It's a reserve machine anyway.
