No sound (SOLVED)

Post by bert2011 »

Installed Mint 19 Mate on a duplicate of this computer and it installed with no sound. Tried a download from a different mirror and still no sound. Downloaded Cinnamon, and XFCE, and still no sound. It installed on this computer with sound. These are identical boxes except the other one has an SSD drive. Doesn't make sense to me. Any suggestions?

Which one are you using (want to use)?
What does

Code: Select all

aplay -L
return?

Have you checked alsamixer for muting?

Even better, pavucontrol (might have to install) likes to mute things, but it'll also sometimes "show" audio (with VU), when you can't hear it.
Please edit your original post title to include [SOLVED] if/when it is solved!
Your data and OS are backed up....right?

Nothing is muted, and here is the result of aplay -L

retardo@retardo-MS-7693:~$ aplay -L

Hi bert2011. Check the Configuration tab of pavucontrol to see if both have the same settings. If that doesn't sort it, paste back the results of the following while something with sound is playing on the no-sound computer:

Code: Select all

pacmd list-sinks
Then copy the output and paste it back here. Enclose the results in-between [ⅽode] and [/ⅽode] code markers by selecting </> from the mini toolbar above the textbox where you type your reply.
