Freeze on shutdown or logout following suspend

Post by JDS1 »

I am running LM19 on a Lenovo G710.
The system freezes (mouse pointer and Desktop icons disappear - entire system unresponsive) on selecting shutdown or logout if the current session has suspended at any point in time (wake from suspend works without issues).

I thought this may be graphics related and tried the nvidia drivers with the following results:
Nvidia-340: Nvidia card works, Intel card crashes cinnamon
Nvidia-390: Nvidia and Intel cards work - no shutdown or logout after suspend (see above).

Now back on nouveau: no shutdown or logout after suspend (see above)

My home partition is encrypted.
Could this be due to the ecryptfs regression which means that home is not encrypted during suspense, and that the wake process corrupts something here?
I can't use full disk encryption as home sits on a HDD, while root is on an SSD.

Outputs below:

inxi -Fxz

Kernel log is throwing a good few errors, unfortunately I'm not knowledgable enough to judge if any of these are relevant to the situation.

I seem to have found a solution here: viewtopic.php?t=258577

To recap, add some kernel parameters (no idea what these ones do!)

Code: Select all

sudo xed /etc/default/grub
Find the line containing GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="......" and add the following parameters at the end of the list:

Code: Select all

rcutree.rcu_idle_gp_delay=1 acpi_osi=! acpi_osi='Windows 2009'
then make sure you run

Code: Select all

sudo update-grub
Shuts down and logs out without error now every time. I am running nvidia-390.
