Logitech webcam not working properly

Post by dgmorland »

I have installed Linux Mint 19 and am not able to get my webcam (Logitech Quickcam for Notebooks) to work correctly with Skype or Cheese. The device is recognised as shown in lsusb output below. The only app it works with is VLC Player when I configure this to play from capture source /dev/video0.

I am wondering if there is any hope of getting it working with Skype. Here are my settings and diagnostic attempts:

Cheese v3.28.0: says "No Device Found"
Skype v8.26.0.70: configured for USB Camera 046d:08dd (black picture shows when testing video)

When playing with VLC player I see this:

Code: Select all

dave@dave-desktop:~$ lsmod | grep videodev
videodev 184320 4 v4l2_common,gspca_zc3xx,gspca_main

Re: Logitech webcam not working properly

Please run the following commands from Terminal and post back the results.

Code: Select all

dmesg | grep -i uvc

Code: Select all

lsmod | grep -i uvc

Code: Select all

lsmod | grep -i gspca
FYI....that cam appears to use the gspca driver, which should be in the Kernel. It's on this list.

https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/v4.17/m ... dlist.html

I would try the guvcview app to see if that works.

Also, latest edition of SkypeforLinux is 8.27.0.85.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I bought a new webcam and turfed the old one before I saw this so I wasnt able to check your suggestions. It was probably time I put it out of its misery considering its age! I replaced it with a Logitech c270 and that works fine.
