[SOLVED] USB sticks not recognised

Post by JoHubb » Tue Sep 18, 2018 3:59 am

I am running Mint KDE 18.3

When I plug in the USB stick my laptop doesn't see it. It is seen in my desktop machine.
Same thing happens with a different USB stick.
Same thing happens if I boot with the USB in the socket.

Code: Select all

sudo fdisk -l
gave me this with the USB plugged in:
howard@Serafina ~ $ sudo fdisk -l
Disk /dev/sda: 931.5 GiB, 1000204886016 bytes, 1953525168 sectors
Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 4096 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 4096 bytes / 4096 bytes
Disklabel type: gpt

Device Start End Sectors Size Type
/dev/sda2 32768 1953521663 1953488896 931.5G Linux filesystem

Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes

/dev/sdb3 960235520 976771071 16535552 7.9G Linux swap

I'd be grateful for advice.

Try a different USB port? That one might be broken - do other devices work in it? Also post output of

Code: Select all

lsusb
with the stick plugged in.

I had a logitech mouse transmitter in the other port. When I removed this, all my USB sticks are recognised in both ports.
Must have been some conflict.

Thanks for help!

Due to the nature of this device it is possible that it is creating interference with other adjacent electronics. If you've got an extension cord at hand, allowing you to move the transmitter further away from the device, you may find that the problem goes away.
