Hi,
i'm using LM 19 cinnamon (3.8.9) on my DELL Inspirion 5558 laptop
i updated the linux system and since then my laptop stopped producing sound, not from the built in speakers neither from headphone plug.
i tried a few different players, rebooting and checking the sound settings. the sound test actually WORKS and the devices seems ok, but nothing else does.
what seems to be the problem?

Re: device recognized but no sound LM19
also, when i connect the laptop to the TV set via HDMI the TV plays the sound just right.
Re: device recognized but no sound LM19
Okay. That helps and is good to know.
When you were playing that youtube, sound was trying to play out the HDMI port.
I suggest installing and running PulseAudio Volume Control (pavucontrol.) When it opens, make sure on the configuration tab the second Built-in Audio profile is set to Analog Stereo Duplex, then play something again and if still no sound, go to the Playback tab and change the device it's playing to by clicking on the box above the volume bar.
Hope that helps.
