Samson Meteor mic light stuck on red

Post by Crufticon »

Hey everybody. I'm using a Samson Meteor USB mic. The light is stuck on red permanently as if the mic is clipping. When I look in Pavucontrol, instead of Samson Meteor mic it's listed as "advanced USB device" and I do have a level meter that responds to my voice but it won't actually record anything and the light is stuck on red. I tried updating the kernel and rebooting, no luck. What information do I need to post for you guys to figure this out? I checked some other solutions in old threads, such as updating the kernel, but none worked.

What application are you using top try to record?

I've used a few. I get a lot of background noise on Skype, Discord, Audacity, and OBS. The mic light is stuck on red, and the cures for "red light syndrome" on Windows all seem to involve the driver which is why I tried updating the kernel. No luck, though. The mic picks up, as I said, in Pavucontrol, but it shows as "advanced USB device" instead of "Samson Meteor."

I don't know if this will help, but here's the terminal output when I run lsusb. The C-Media Electronics is the mic.

Hi Crufticon.

This is a total guess, but maybe the mic IS clipping (you said lots of noise everywhere.) Try running alsamixer in the terminal. When it opens, press F6 and select the USB device. See if lowering the levels, especially mic gain, helps at all (use left/right arrows to highlight columns, up/down arrows to alter levels.)

Hope that helps.
