I have libre mint 19 installed on a macbook air. Have been looking at voice recognition and the recommendation is a website called dictation.io which works with chromes voice recognition. But it does not record any input from the microphone. Alsamixer bars are moving showing the mic working.
Where can I get additional settings to get chrome to recognise the input? (Hint: I am in China and Google websites are blocked. but as the brower runs on my computer it should still show the input bars moving).

I had a very similar issue.
Download from the software manager 'pavucontrol' and open onlinemictest.com in your browswer. The combination of both running at the same time work for me.
