New wireless mouse not working

Post by fantasticmuse »

I'm running mint 18.3 on a laptop that equates to a netbook, and the touchpad was driving me crazy. I bought a wireless mouse (Dynex Watermelon Optical), plugged it into the usb and no joy. Went into "Mouse and Touchpad" configurations. Under device both the touchpad and "reserved Dynex Watermlon Mice" appear. With both enabled I can see the cursor both devices, but only use the touchpad. With the touchpad disabled, I only have a non moving cursor. I've tried different surfaces, changing the batteries and even hooked it up to my fathers Mac and everything indicates the mouse works perfectly. Xinput shows the device, as well as lsusb. No error messages. Anyone have any ideas????

Hi and welcome to the forums,

I think you are on the right track with xinput.
So enter xinput -list to see the devices and notice the id # for your mouse.
Then enter:
xinput list-props "put_your_id_number_here" without quotes.
example only: xinput list-props 13
You will see a list of adjustable attributes for your device.
Most of these will be tweakable
Everything in life was difficult before it became easy.
