Realtec Maxx Audio
I have an Inspiron with Realtec Maxx Audio. I have no idea if is installed and working, or even what it does. When I use Driver Manager it says that there are no proprietary drivers installed, so if it is working it is using some native driver. What does this do and is it work messing with?

Hi petedecember.
It looks like Waves (the makers of MaxxAudio) stopped their very limited support for Linux years ago, sorry.
If you're having any sound issues, just say what the problem is and we can probably figure something out. But that button (if you have one) isn't going to do anything useful on Linux.

Re: Realtec Maxx Audio
Thanks for your reply. The only thing that I am really interested in is getting the little sub woofer on the bottom of my laptop working. Any ideas?

Re: Realtec Maxx Audio
I would guess you'd need a 2.1 profile to accomplish that. The easiest way I know how to set that up is to install and run PulseAudio Volume Control, then navigate to the Configuration tab and check the Profiles that are available. If you do see one that says 2.1, select it and that might be all you need.petedecember wrote: ⤴Wed Nov 07, 2018 7:10 pm Thanks for your reply. Re: Realtec Maxx Audio
Hmmm... PulseAudio Volume Controls, configuration tab does not offer a 2.1 setting. Any other ideas? Does anyone else have a Dell Inspiron with this MaxxAudio setup? Thanks for your help.

Re: Realtec Maxx Audio
Let's try this. What's the output of running
dmesg | grep snd
in the terminal. If we can see the appropriate speaker count there, we can probably get it working.Re: Realtec Maxx Audio
Crap. I should also mention to check
alsamixer
in the terminal. If the sub shows there it's probably just muted. If that's the case, arrow over to select the sub, then press m to unmute and the up arrow to increase volume.-

Re: Realtec Maxx Audio
Thanks again for you help. dmesg | grep snd seemed to say that there are no speakers present: "speaker_out=0"
Alsamixer might have seen the subwoofer, as next to the slider labeled speaker there was a slider labeled PCM. Both of which were turned up to 100. Any idea what PCM might be?
Again, thanks.

Re: Realtec Maxx Audio
PCM is something different. The sub should be named LFE (sorry I forgot to mention that earlier.)
Anyway, if there is no LFE in alsamixer, I have found a link that should help you get that sub working: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2217683
Post #4 has the details. While it's a different laptop brand, the instructions should work in general. You may have a different option than Analog Surround 4.0 Output, but something similar should become available.
Good luck, and let me know if you need any clarification.

Re: Realtec Maxx Audio
Hey--I got it to work! I did have to make a couple of adjustments, perhaps Dell specific issues:
On Jack Retasking utility:
I had to use the codec "ID 92HD91BXX"
{remember to check the "unconnected pins" box}
and then the pin configuration "0x10" and turn on "internal LFE"
On my sound settings I had to to use "Analogue Stereo Output"
The "sound test" didn't make any sound at all, but it works just fine when I play a MP3
Thanks for the help!

Ah crap....
I upgraded to LM 19.1 and now I cannot get my subwoofer to work again. Anybody got any new ideas? Thanks.

Let's see the output of
dmesg | grep -C1 -E 'ALSA|HDA|HDMI|snd[_-]|sound|hda.codec|hda.intel'
and pacmd list-cards
please.-
