Archer T2UH AC600 Mint 19 Impossible install

Post by marmardia »

Ive traying to install TPLink Archer T2UH AC600 USB WiFi adapter in a dsektop PC with Linux Mint 19.
Ive used all the information Ive request in forums here and in other pages, probably with Mint 18 (other kernel) but nowadays Its impossible for me to install this hardware.
Somebody have any information how to do it with Linux Mint 19?

Have you tried

Code: Select all

sudo apt install git build-essential
git clone https://github.com/xtknight/mt7610u-linksys-ae6000-wifi-fixes.git
cd mt7610u-linksys-ae6000-wifi-fixes
make clean
make
sudo make install
Check mokutil --sb-state If it says Secure Boot is enabled, then you will have to disable Secure Boot in BIOS settings
Reboot

If you want it to compile automatically for kernel updates do

Code: Select all

sudo apt install dkms
sudo dkms add mt7610u_sta/1.0
sudo dkms install mt7610u_sta/1.0

Just want to say the same. I gave up on this about a year ago after spending hours on forums leading to goose chases. Decided to give one more go with my tp-link ac600 came across this post and wow can not believe it was so easy after all I have been through. THANKS!

Hi,

After being "trapped" into buying a Tp-Link AC 600 (apparently shouldn't have done that, but brought it home expecting to be working out of the box, not) , I've been spending some time trying to get it working. This thread above gave me the best results so far. After rebooting I can finally see wifi networks through the dongle, but I can't connect to any. Funny thing: I can detect both 2.4 and 5 Ghz networks, but my own 5 Ghz isn't listed. Anyway, I followed the all the steps carefully, 'make' and 'make install' did not give any errors. Also checked the BIOS setting. What else can I try?

Check iw reg get to see if it matches your country code, you can find a list of country codes at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_3166-1_alpha-2

Here's the output of iw reg get:

Code: Select all

global
country 00: DFS-UNSET
	(2402 - 2472 @ 40), (N/A, 20), (N/A)
	(2457 - 2482 @ 20), (N/A, 20), (N/A), AUTO-BW, PASSIVE-SCAN
	(2474 - 2494 @ 20), (N/A, 20), (N/A), NO-OFDM, PASSIVE-SCAN
	(5170 - 5250 @ 80), (N/A, 20), (N/A), AUTO-BW, PASSIVE-SCAN
	(5250 - 5330 @ 80), (N/A, 20), (0 ms), DFS, AUTO-BW, PASSIVE-SCAN
	(5490 - 5730 @ 160), (N/A, 20), (0 ms), DFS, PASSIVE-SCAN
	(5735 - 5835 @ 80), (N/A, 20), (N/A), PASSIVE-SCAN
	(57240 - 63720 @ 2160), (N/A, 0), (N/A)
My country is Belgium. Not sure on how to find the right code in wiki and how to change this. What configuration file? Thanks!

Firstly, thanks for you help and time JeremyB, greatly appreciated.

Code: Select all

sudo iw reg set BE
does change output into:

Code: Select all

global
country BE: DFS-ETSI
	(2402 - 2482 @ 40), (N/A, 20), (N/A)
	(5170 - 5250 @ 80), (N/A, 20), (N/A), AUTO-BW
	(5250 - 5330 @ 80), (N/A, 20), (0 ms), DFS, AUTO-BW
	(5490 - 5710 @ 160), (N/A, 27), (0 ms), DFS
	(57000 - 66000 @ 2160), (N/A, 40), (N/A)
But this is not persistent resulting in

Code: Select all

global
country 00: DFS-UNSET
again after reboot.
So still no luck: network-manager shows all available networks (except only the 5 GHz one from my own dual band router, but it does show the 2.4 GHz one, strange). All SSID's are shown, but reception strenght (and icons) show 0%.

Thinking about giving up and returning the dongle to shop. :-(

Successfully returned the Wi-Fi adaptor and got a refund. Found a much simpler and cost-free solution: now using my smartphone with USB tethering to access the 5 GHz wifi. Very easy set up, fast and stable network. Why didn't I think of this before? Marks as SOLVED for me.

How do I undo the changes by made by this? I did it, it did not work and already returned the item, so I would like to get back where I started.

Or just install a newer kernel

Reference to the code supplied by JeremyB, to activate an Archer T2UH AC600 WIFI adapter.

I would appreciate some help; Been using Linux Mint 19.2 for about 90 days. Now upgraded to 19.3 Tricia. Super, no problems all was well. However, I moved from Devon to Kent and for the time being, until I can get a cable connection, I need to run this computer with Linux Mint 19.3 on WIFI. Cannot get the computer to find the adapter. Ran the code provided by JeremyB and it runs then stops and I am asked;

Oss@Oss- System-Product-Name:- $

Could someone tell me what the computer is expecting me to enter? Tried everything I could think of, but get no further. It just repeats the request. Would appreciate some help.

Hello Oss,

if you use the default kernel of LM 19.3 (5.0 series), your adapter should be supported directly by the kernel and no additional driver is needed. You have written, that you have made an upgrade from 19.2 to 19.3, so it is possible, that you still running the 4.15 kernel (the default kernel of LM 19-19.2). If it's so, please update the kernel. Is the USB adapter shown in the output of the following terminal command?

Code: Select all

lsusb
Locked

Return to “Hardware Support”
