Apple MacBook Pro with Cinnamon 19

Post by JIS » Tue Nov 06, 2018 5:55 am

Apple make superb hardware and my 2011 MacBook Pro is still going strong. However no further updates were possible with MacOS so I decided to replace with LM Cinnamon 19. Al have gone well except :-
1. Whilst the sensitivity of the Touch Pad is at maximum it is still relatively insensitive; I guess I have to live with it or attach a mouse ?
2. Generating French accents is nigh-on impossible. It's a UK purchased QWERTY lap and I would SO LOVE to be able to generate French accents. (Living in France makes this necessary!! )

Thanks guys

John

Accents can be generated using a modifier key e.g. I have the right CTRL key set as the modifier key & can hold it, hit e, release both & immediately press ' to get é. A bit difficult to get the timing exactly right though; my attempt to get ½: 1212121212½ .. also ¼ 18⅛ oooo° oo° o2o2o2o2°2oooooooo2oÖo"£o"O2ö . aarrgggghh frustrating. There must be some way of setting the timing.

In LM17.3 Cinnamon this can be found via Menu ➙ Preferences ➙ Keyboard ➙ Layouts tab ⬇ Position of Compose Key. It should be similar in later editions of LM Cinnamon. :)

Can't find this on LM 19 but also there is no right side CTRL key on my MacBook Pro; a single ctrl key on the left habd side. However, that is not key to resolving this

I'll have to boot a live LM19 session & check this out as I haven't actually tried it yet. I'm sure it must be there somewhere! Hopefully there's another key you don't use for other things which you can assign, not familiar with Mac keyboards.
