I currently am set up with ext4 and all is well, runs fine unless I tweak something
reading some threads keeps bringing up that GPT is more efficient.
Reading thru https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GUID_Partition_Table
I can understand that it may be more efficient than ext4, but is it enough to warrant doing a complete overhaul of the current setup?
Would I even realize any trifling bit of extra speed?
currently using 512gB SSD and 12 gB RAM

You have mixed two different thing -
GPT
is partition table and ext4
is filesystem. - AZgl1800

Re: Formating Semantics - GPT or ext4
okay, back to the original thought, is there any advantage to using GPT over any other system?administrollaattori wrote: ⤴Wed Nov 07, 2018 8:50 am You have mixed two different thing -GPT

the last thread I read was a reply to the fact that I was using ext4, so that user is misconstruing things also?

then using a GPT type partition system:
- will require LinuxMint 64 bit & a efi partition as well.
it may pay you to manually create your partitions by using Gparted from the Live Media,
& then use the 'something else' option in the installer program.
I do NOT want to mess with UEFI as it will block my WiFi, so that resolves the issue.

GPT
is an only option. Otherwise I have not seen any advantages.- AZgl1800
