I have a Jethro cell phone and have been searching and tying to find a way to send sms messages from my desktop and I am sure it can be done but most of the info I find is very dated and doesn't pertain to the latest distros. If I include Linux Mint 19 in the search term I get everything but what I am looking for as it is so new, sigh.

+1 this is what I do.

Otherwise Signal! (or similar "trustworthy" cross-platform messaging app)

edit to add: I had forgotten to mention Signal is 64-bit only and I have to go to SWMO laptop for comms via signal desktop to cell phone when it's out and about. another option I'd looked at before Wire, for personal use and am installing it now on this old 32bit laptop as it appears good and secure (although it is not sms/mms... it is a messaging app that needs to be installed by any who want to communicate with others using it.

Hope this helps!

I have installed KDE Plasma and when I go to KDE connect I get this screen that won't allow me to do anything and I have no idea how I am supposed to select a device as it does not offer any way to do that. As for pushbullet in chromium, I do not want to use a third party service but just LM 19.

hi Jim river!

That kde connect looks like a great solution, I've not ventured into KDE but have to ask from your screenshot- have you installed the app on the andriod phone you want to connect with? That link to their forums may also be of help to look around for solutions.
