I have a multi function printer Canon MF4140. After upgrading to Linux Mint 19 XFCE the scanner and the printer were no more working.
The printer problem has solved here: viewtopic.php?t=280348&p=1545248
The scanner problem is a communication error. Installing the Canon correct driver for MF4140 is seen by the system as a MF4150. I don't know if this is the problem but there's apparently no solution. Sometimes if i detach and reconnect usb cable the scanner works.
With Linux Mint XFCE 18.3 the scanner was working correctly.

Trying the live version of another distro (MX Linux 18.2) the scanner is working correctly. So seems it's a problem of Linux Mint 19.
